Function Modules

The 6-ton heavy-duty omnidirectional AGV combines omnidirectional motion with heavy-load climbing capabilities. Its working principle relies on the synergistic operation of four major modules: the drive system, navigation perception, control algorithms, and energy management. This ensures both 360° free movement and the power required for heavy-load climbing.

Omnidirectional Motion Control: The movement of this omnidirectional automated guided vehicle relies on a four-steer-wheel system. Each wheel is equipped with independent drive and steering motors, controlled by PLC programs. By coordinating the steering angle and rotation speed of the four steer wheels, the turning radius is perfectly matched to the path, allowing the transfer car to move straight, diagonally, or rotate in place.

Power and Stability: The 6-ton AGV must operate stably on slopes (typically ≤6°), which depends on the control of the power system and structural stability. The drive motors are powered by maintenance-free lead-acid batteries, monitored by an intelligent BMS for voltage, current, and temperature. When the power drops below 30%, a charging request is automatically triggered. With sufficient power, the equipment supports 24-hour continuous operation. Stability requires the coordination of sensors, including IMU (Inertial Measurement Unit) and encoders, to collect real-time speed, angle, and position data. This adjusts the power output to maintain body stability, ensuring motion precision even with load changes or uneven ground.

Navigation and Positioning: The omnidirectional AGV perceives its environment and avoids obstacles through multi-sensor fusion navigation, including Laser SLAM, visual navigation, and magnetic navigation. The combination of Laser SLAM and visual recognition provides a 360° scan of the surroundings to detect obstacles in real-time and adjust paths dynamically, with a response time reduced to 0.3 seconds for dynamic obstacles.

  • Magnetic Navigation: Guided by magnetic strips on the ground; low cost and high stability, suitable for educational experiments or small warehouses.
  • Laser SLAM Navigation: Uses LiDAR to scan the environment and build 3D maps, achieving repeatable, precise positioning (±5mm).
  • Visual Navigation: Uses cameras to recognize ground textures or markers, suitable for flexible production scenarios.

The Heavy-duty Omnidirectional AGV workflow

  • Task Reception: Receiving handling instructions (cargo location, target point) from WMS/WCS systems.
  • Path Planning: Decomposing the overall motion requirement into action commands for each drive wheel.
  • Dynamic Adjustment: Correcting path deviations in real-time to keep the AGV on the preset route.
  • Instruction Completion: Transporting cargo to the designated location and placing it precisely to finish the task.
